Who is Vicki Coan
“People think about people before they think about the wildlife. ”
Life sometimes has a way of guiding us to our true purpose, as Vicki Coan discovered when her existence took an unexpected turn shortly after relocating to Costa Rica in the 1990s. The catalyst for this change was an orphaned baby howler monkey that found its way into her nurturing care. Her journey took on a deeper significance when she witnessed the harrowing effects of electrocutions on these young creatures, a result of uninsulated power lines and transformers.
Vicki became the founder of Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary. Over the past two decades, Sibu has evolved from a rescue and release center to a permanent haven for vulnerable wildlife that would otherwise struggle to survive in their natural habitat.
In her role as Executive Director, Vicki ensures the efficient operation of Sibu Sanctuary, participating and overseeing all aspects of the sanctuary's functions.
The seeds of Vicki's deep affinity for nature and animals were sown during her early years. Her lifelong love for nature is the underpinning of her work at Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary, and her dedication continues to make a profound impact on the wildlife she so passionately protects.
